Sealed vs. Booster Draft
- Sealed Deck — each player opens a fixed amount of product (commonly six boosters) and builds a deck from what they open.
- Booster Draft — players sit in pods (usually eight), open a pack, take one card, and pass the rest; this continues through three packs, alternating pass direction. Players then build from the cards they drafted.
Limited deck construction
Limited decks have a minimum of 40 cards (not 60). Crucially, players may add as many basic lands as they want — basics are freely available from the organizer and don't need to have been opened. Every card you opened or drafted but didn't include is part of your sideboard, and you may swap those cards in and out freely between games.
Registration in Limited
Limited events often use two registration steps: a pool/card registration (recording the contents opened or drafted, sometimes by swapping and registering a neighbor's pool) and a deck registration (the specific deck built for the rounds). The registered pool defines the legal card set; the deck list defines the current 40+.
Draft etiquette & errors
During the draft, players pick within the allotted time and keep their picks concealed. Drafting out of turn, taking too long, or looking at more of a pack than allowed are handled as procedural errors. Because Limited registration is lighter, a Deck/Decklist Problem here is often about the pool or the built deck not matching what was recorded.
